LITTLE LESSON 05 Number and Place Value

Rounding to 10 and 100

Rounding just means finding the nearest tidy number.

Let’s get the idea.

Here’s how it works

Find the two multiples either side, then choose the closer one.

What we’re exploring

  • finding the nearest ten and the nearest hundred
  • which digit decides the round
  • why a 5 always rounds up

At exactly halfway, round up to the higher multiple.

LET’S WORK ONE OUT TOGETHER

A little example

Round 347 to the nearest 10 and nearest 100.

  1. 1

347 is between 340 and 350; it is nearer 350.

  2. 2

It is between 300 and 400; it is nearer 300.

  3. 3

So the answers are 350 and 300.

Make a little room for your workings.
NOW IT’S YOUR TURN

Have a little go.

Four questions. Plenty of thinking space.
Use paper, then add photos of your workings.

Your pace. Your way. ↘

When should we tell you if your answers are right?

You can’t change an answer or its photos after you submit it. You also can’t change when you see your results once you start.
