Let’s get the idea.

Here’s how it works

Choose the rounding place, then inspect the digit immediately to its right.

What we’re exploring

  • rounding to any column you choose
  • letting the digit next door decide
  • the same trick works on any size of number

First decide which place you are rounding to.

LET’S WORK ONE OUT TOGETHER

A little example

Round 463,781 to the nearest 10,000.

  1. 1

    The ten-thousands digit is 6.

  2. 2

The next digit is 3, below 5, so keep the 6.

  3. 3

Replace the smaller places with zeros: 460,000.

Make a little room for your workings.
NOW IT’S YOUR TURN

Have a little go.

Four questions. Plenty of thinking space.
Use paper, then add photos of your workings.

Your pace. Your way. ↘

When should we tell you if your answers are right?

You can’t change an answer or its photos after you submit it. You also can’t change when you see your results once you start.
