LITTLE LESSON 03 Number and Place Value

Comparing and ordering numbers

Today we're putting numbers in order, and spotting which is which.

Let’s get the idea.

Here’s how it works

Compare the largest place first. Only move right if the digits match.

What we’re exploring

  • how to tell which number is bigger
  • what the < and > signs mean
  • putting a jumbled list in order

Increasing order means smallest first.

LET’S WORK ONE OUT TOGETHER

A little example

Put 408, 480 and 418 in increasing order.

  1. 1

    All three have 4 hundreds.

  2. 2

    Compare the tens: 0, 8 and 1.

  3. 3

    So 408 < 418 < 480.

Make a little room for your workings.
NOW IT’S YOUR TURN

Have a little go.

Four questions. Plenty of thinking space.
Use paper, then add photos of your workings.

Your pace. Your way. ↘

When should we tell you if your answers are right?

You can’t change an answer or its photos after you submit it. You also can’t change when you see your results once you start.
