LITTLE LESSON 04 Number and Place Value

Counting in steps

Let's count in jumps instead of in ones.

Ready to have a go? Jump to practice ↓
Let’s get the idea.

Here’s how it works

Add the same step each time. A number line can help.

What we’re exploring

  • counting in jumps of 4, 8, 50 and 100
  • spotting the size of the jump in a pattern
  • carrying a pattern on forwards and backwards

Check your rule against more than one jump.

LET’S WORK ONE OUT TOGETHER

A little example

Continue 15, 20, 25, …

  1. 1

    20 − 15 = 5, so the jump is +5.

  2. 2

    25 + 5 = 30.

  3. 3

    30 + 5 = 35: the next numbers are 30 and 35.

Make a little room for your workings.
NOW IT’S YOUR TURN

Have a little go.

Four questions. Plenty of thinking space.
Use paper, then add photos of your workings.

Your pace. Your way. ↘

When should we tell you if your answers are right?

You can’t change an answer or its photos after you submit it. You also can’t change when you see your results once you start.
