The research behind it
This programme is informed by the research behind sibling support, including the evidence base gathered by Sibs, the UK charity for siblings of disabled children and adults. It shows that the sibling who quietly asks for less is common and that these family dynamics are addressable.
How we'll know it worked
You will look for protected one-to-one sibling time happening each week and fewer sibling flashpoints. A session 1 baseline is measured again in session 4, with a written before-and-after summary for you to keep.
- Two or three goals in your own words, scored from 0 to 10 at the start and at the end.
- A 30-second weekly log of whether one-to-one sibling time happened and how many sibling flashpoints there were.
- Where a sibling is old enough, their own rating of how things feel at the start and at the end.
Is this for me?
One child's needs take nearly all your attention, while their sibling asks for less and less.
You can see another child fading into the background and want to make space for them again.
A sibling asks why their brother or sister behaves that way or gets 'special treatment'.
You are not sure how much to explain, or what words fit each child's age.
'It's not fair' keeps coming up, alongside resentment, flare-ups or aggression between siblings.
You spend so much time managing conflict that there is little protected time left for your other children.

Common questions
What if it does not work?
No outcome can be guaranteed. In the final session, your specialist says plainly if the goals have not been met and works out why. They will offer a different programme or specialist if the original approach was wrong, a discounted top-up block if more time is needed, or a written GP or CAMHS referral summary if the need is clinical. You will not be left with a shrug.
Who attends, and are the sessions online?
You attend all four core sessions without the children, and each one is online. An optional in-person session can be arranged with the specialist for an older sibling who wants their own space to talk. That is the only in-person part.
Is this therapy for my children?
No. It is specialist guidance for you as a parent, not diagnosis or treatment for any child. Session 1 includes a safety screen for every child in the family, siblings included. If anyone's distress needs support from the GP, NHS or CAMHS, your specialist will route you there.
Why does four sessions take six weeks?
Weeks 3 and 5 are deliberate practice weeks, with no session and a message check-in. They give you time to have the conversations and try protected sibling time in a real week before you review what changed.
