For nurseries & early-years groups

Your nursery's SEN leadwithout the hire.

A qualified SENCO covering your settings, on a monthly retainer — so every child gets the early support they need, and your records are ready when Ofsted asks.

Delivered by approved Remarkable Minds SEND specialists.

The challenge

The SEN gap most nurseries are quietly carrying.

Early years settings are expected to lead on SEN like a school would — usually without a school's budget or staffing.

Need is rising

More children arrive at nursery with additional needs, and identifying and supporting them early is now a core expectation — not an extra.

No budget for a full-time SENCO

A single setting rarely justifies a full-time SEN lead, and across a group the cost of recruiting and retaining one adds up fast.

Ofsted expectations you can't meet alone

Inspectors look for a clear, evidenced approach to SEND. Without a dedicated lead, the records and the practice are hard to keep on top of.

What you get

The SEN leadership a setting needs — as a service, not a job to fill.

  • A named SENCO

A consistent, qualified specialist who gets to know your children, your staff and your settings — not a different face each visit.

  • Agreed monthly support hours

A set block of time every month, scaled to your number of settings and the level of need, so you always know what you're getting.

  • SEN support plans

Written, reviewed and kept current for every child on SEN support, using the graduated approach the EYFS framework expects.

  • Parent meetings

Structured conversations with families — led or supported by your specialist — so parents are partners, not bystanders.

  • Staff coaching

Practical, on-the-floor upskilling for your room leaders and key persons, so good SEN practice outlasts any single visit.

  • Ofsted-ready records

Your SEN documentation organised and evidenced, so what you do for every child is easy to show at inspection.

How it works

Up and running in three steps.

  1. 1

    Scoping call

We map your settings, your current SEN picture and what you actually need — then agree the right level of cover and a clear monthly retainer.

  2. 2

    Onboarding across your sites

Your named SENCO meets each team, reviews existing records and children, and sets the early priorities so the first month delivers.

  3. 3

    An ongoing monthly rhythm

Regular on-site or remote sessions, plans kept up to date, staff supported between visits, and one point of contact you can rely on.

A fraction of the costof a full-time hire.

You get dedicated SEN leadership and inspection-ready records, without the salary, the recruitment or the risk of the role sitting empty.

No hire

No recruitment, no pension, no on-costs, no vacancy gap when someone leaves.

Rolling

Monthly terms — scale the cover up or down as your settings change.

Ofsted-ready

Evidenced SEN records and a named lead, for every child on SEN support.

Common questions

Questions you're probably asking.

Why not just hire our own SENCO?
Recruitment is slow, competitive and expensive, and most settings don't need a full-time post. A retainer gives you the expertise without the headcount, the on-costs or the risk of the role sitting vacant.
Is one specialist enough across several sites?
The retainer is scaled to your number of settings and agreed hours. For larger groups we scope the right level of cover at the start — so the support matches the need rather than being spread too thin.
How long is the contract, and can we leave?
Retainers run on a rolling monthly basis with a short notice period agreed up front. No long lock-in — the relationship continues because it's working, not because you're tied to it.
