The research behind it
This programme is informed by the research behind Incredible Years, Triple P and, for disabilities, Stepping Stones Triple P. Behavioural parent training is the best-evidenced approach in child mental health, and NICE recommends parent training as a first-line approach for behaviour problems. The shared ingredients are child-led play, specific praise, clear commands and planned consequences. For neurodivergent children, sensory and communication causes are considered before behaviour strategies are applied.
How we'll know it worked
You set a baseline in session 1, measure it again in session 8 and see the two side by side.
- The two goals you set together in session 1, using goal-based outcomes (GBO).
- A weekly yes or no log of whether your 2 target routines happened without a battle.
- The short SDQ conduct questions before and after, to track behaviour consistently.
- Whether target routines are running and conflict flashpoints are becoming less frequent.
Is this for me?
Mornings, mealtimes or getting out of the door keep turning into conflict.
You are a parent of a neurodivergent child and want home routines that feel more manageable.
You have tried standard parenting advice, but it did not fit your child or made things harder.
You want sensory and communication causes considered before behaviour strategies are chosen.
You want more than one-off tips, with time to practise between sessions.
You are happy to attend online without your child and want to see clearly what is changing.
Want one 45-minute conversation for £80 before committing to 10 weeks? Behaviour & routines at home fits better.

“Spread out so we could actually embed each thing before adding the next. That pacing is why it worked when the books never did.”

Built a routine that survives contact with real life, which the parenting books never managed. The written summaries each week kept both of us parents on the same page, literally.
Really pleased overall. Wish I could afford to do it all again to top up, that's how useful it was, though the price is the catch. The meltdown toolkit we built over those weeks is the thing I reach for most.
The continuity matters more than I expected. By session three she knew our daughter's sensory world and the advice got really specific instead of generic. Sleep, meltdowns, mornings, all noticeably better.
Matched in a couple of days and our specialist Rachel just got us. Steady, warm, practical, and home life is genuinely calmer. It's a fair bit of money up front, that's my only hesitation, but spread over the weeks it earned its keep.
I came in exhausted and a bit cynical, thinking nobody could fix our evenings. By the end I wasn't dreading 5pm any more. That's not nothing.
Good steady help. It is an investment, and there was one session that felt a bit like a recap, but on the whole the programme worked out better value than singles and the toolkit is genuinely ours now. The kids are calmer in the evenings.

Common questions
What if it does not work?
No one can guarantee an outcome. In session 1, your specialist screens for anything that needs the GP, NHS or CAMHS and routes you there rather than pressing on. They consider sensory and communication causes before choosing behaviour strategies, and will tell you honestly if a different route fits better. This is specialist guidance for parents, not diagnosis or treatment.
Who attends, and is it online or in person?
You attend on your own and your child is never on the call. All 8 sessions are online. You can also ask about an optional in-person home observation before session 4, so your specialist can see routines and flashpoints live rather than relying only on a description.
Why does an 8-session programme take 10 weeks?
Weeks 5 and 9 are deliberate practice weeks with no session. You use the tools in real life, first before the boundaries work and then before the final review, so the programme can respond to what actually happens at home.
What will sessions 6 and 7 cover?
At the end of session 1, you choose two flashpoints that matter most to your family. The menu is mornings, mealtimes, screens, homework, getting out of the door or public meltdowns.
Why book the full programme?
You work with the same specialist across 10 weeks, with time to practise and a measured review at the end. The 8 sessions cost £480 all-in, compared with £640 booked separately, saving £160.
