The research behind it
The move to secondary school is a recognised cliff edge for neurodivergent and SEND children. This programme uses structured transition planning: agreeing a plan before the move, briefing the new SENCO, preparing gradually through visits and travel practice, then following up during the early weeks. This is specialist guidance for parents, not diagnosis or treatment. Session 1 includes a screen that routes anything needing clinical help to the GP, NHS or CAMHS.
How we'll know it worked
Success means your child is attending, finding their way around and feeling more settled by half-term. Your goals are scored from 0 to 10 in session 1 and again at the final review, shown side by side with the weekly tracking.
- Attendance percentage once term starts.
- A weekly settling rating from your child and from you.
- A friendship and homework check at the half-term review.
- Two or three goals scored from 0 to 10 at the start and end.

Common questions
Who attends, and are the sessions online?
The six parent sessions are online with the same SEND teacher, and your child does not attend them. Where a specialist is available locally, you can separately arrange and pay for an optional school walkthrough with your child and optional travel-training practice runs over the summer.
What if it does not work?
The half-term review says so plainly. A different programme or specialist may fit better, a discounted top-up block may help if six sessions were too short, or you will get a written GP or CAMHS referral summary for a clinical need. If the promised school support is still missing, your SEND teacher can escalate you to EHCP advice.
What if we are already past the summer term?
The usual shape is six sessions over about 16 weeks, from summer term to autumn half-term. If the place was confirmed late, your SEND teacher will use the same milestones and focus first on what needs doing before day one, then the first week and settling by half-term.
What are the baseline and screen for?
In session 1, you set two or three goals in your own words and score each from 0 to 10, so you can compare them with the half-term review. This is specialist guidance for parents, not diagnosis or treatment, and the screen routes anything needing clinical help to the GP, NHS or CAMHS.
