The research behind it

This programme is informed by the research behind the Sleeping Sound trials (Hiscock et al., BMJ 2015), run with children with ADHD and later replicated for autistic children. Sleep improved with just two consultations plus a follow-up call, which is why this format is deliberately brief.

How we'll know it worked

You keep a sleep diary for all 6 weeks, then compare the first and final weeks in the last session, using the same kind of measures as the trials. You also revisit the goals you set in session 1.

  • Minutes taken to fall asleep, with falling asleep alone within 30 minutes as the target.
  • Night wakings each week, including where your child woke up.
  • Two or three goals in your own words, scored from 0 to 10 in session 1 and again at the end.

Is this for me?

Bedtime takes hours

Your child cannot fall asleep unless you stay in the room.

Bedtime starts early but still stretches late into the evening.

Nights keep breaking

Your child wakes through the night and needs you to settle again.

Everyone starts the morning tired after another broken night.

Generic advice does not fit

ADHD, autism or sensory differences seem to be shaping your child's sleep.

You want a plan built around your child, not standard sleep-training advice.

Want one conversation about bedtime routines before a 6-week programme? Behaviour & routines at home, single 45-minute session fits better.

Common questions

What if it does not work?

The final session says so plainly. We will route you to a different programme or specialist if the original understanding was wrong, offer a discounted top-up block if more time is needed, or provide a written GP or CAMHS referral summary if the need is clinical.

Who attends, and is it online?

It is parent only and online. Your child never attends because you put the plan into practice at home, while your child sleeps, or does not, without us there.

Why are there only four sessions across 6 weeks?

The programme is informed by the research behind the Sleeping Sound trials, where two consultations and a follow-up call improved sleep. Weeks 3 and 5 deliberately have no session, giving you consecutive nights to run the plan, keep the diary and see what needs adjusting.

Can you advise on melatonin or other medication?

We do not prescribe or recommend medication. Your specialist can help you prepare questions about melatonin to discuss with your GP.

What if the first session flags a possible medical cause?

Your specialist will refer you to your GP first. This is specialist guidance for parents, not diagnosis or treatment.
