The research behind it

This programme is informed by the research behind the guidance and protocols of ERIC, the children's bowel and bladder charity, and NICE guidance on childhood constipation (CG99) and bedwetting (CG111). This is specialist guidance for parents, not diagnosis or treatment. Session 1 screens for medical causes and routes you to your GP first where indicated.

How we'll know it worked

Session 1 records your baseline, then your weekly chart tracks dry days, nights and comfortable stooling before the final session puts then and now side by side. You keep a written outcome summary and forward plan.

  • A 30-second weekly continence log of dry days, accidents and stool frequency.
  • Two or three goals in your own words, scored from 0 to 10 in session 1 and again at the end, with a 3-point move used as the meaningful-change benchmark.

Is this for me?

Toilet training never landed

Your autistic or neurodivergent child is still in nappies or pull-ups after toilet training stalled.

Sensory differences, clothing, flushing or wiping make each toilet step harder.

Accidents shape the day

Wetting, soiling or holding on keeps happening at home or school.

You need a discreet routine to agree with the class teacher or SENCO.

Days are dry, nights wet

Your child manages the toilet by day but still wets at night.

You want parent-only online guidance that fits the routines you run at home.

Want one conversation with an occupational therapist first? Sensory & everyday skills fits better.

This is specialist guidance for parents, not diagnosis or treatment. Session 1 always screens for anything that needs your GP, NHS or CAMHS first, and we tell you straight away if it does.

Common questions

What if it does not work?

The final session says so plainly. We will route you to a different programme or specialist if the original understanding was wrong, offer a discounted top-up block if more time was needed, or provide a written GP or CAMHS referral summary if the need is clinical. There is no guaranteed outcome and no shrug.

Who attends, and is it online?

The five sessions are parent-only online video calls, and your child never joins. Toileting work happens between sessions in your home routines, with guidance from an occupational therapist or neurodiversity specialist.

Could constipation or another medical issue be involved?

Yes, so session 1 screens carefully for constipation and other red flags, following NICE guidance, and routes you to your GP, the NHS or other clinical services where indicated. This is specialist guidance for parents, not diagnosis or treatment.

Why are five sessions spread across 8 weeks?

Weeks 4, 6 and 7 are deliberate practice weeks, not missing sessions. They give you time to run the routines and keep consecutive weeks of the continence chart before the final review.
