The research behind it
Structured Literacy Support is informed by the research behind structured literacy, the approach with the strongest evidence base for dyslexia: systematic synthetic phonics, morphology (how words are built) and fluency practice. It is rooted in the same research base as the Rose Review, the independent review of the teaching of early reading, without promising a particular result.

Success looks like a measurable reading gain. We measure reading at weeks 1, 6 and 12, show you the numbers side by side, and give you a written school-facing summary to keep.

This is specialist guidance for parents, not diagnosis or treatment. Session 1 always screens for anything that needs your GP, NHS or CAMHS first, and we tell you straight away if it does.
Common questions
Who attends, and are sessions online or in person?
The eight tutoring sessions are 1:1 with your child, in person at your home, because direct work between a SEND teacher and a child rarely works well over video. The week 1 and week 12 sessions are parent-only and online. A parent needs to be home during visits but does not sit in on the tutoring, and we check that a SEND teacher covers your area before you pay.
What if the reading numbers do not move?
No outcome is guaranteed, and the final session will say plainly if the measures have not moved. We will route you towards a different programme or specialist, a discounted top-up block if more time is needed, or a written referral summary for your GP or school if the need goes beyond tutoring.
Does my child need a dyslexia diagnosis first?
No. Structured literacy can help struggling readers with or without a dyslexia label, and the week 1 screen routes anything that needs checking, such as vision, hearing, or speech and language, to your GP, the NHS or the school SENCO. This is specialist teaching and guidance, not diagnosis or treatment.
Why are there 10 sessions across 12 weeks?
Weeks 7 and 11 are deliberate practice weeks because reading gains depend on regular practice. Your home-reading routine keeps running, with a message check-in from your SEND teacher.
How is this different from dyslexia tutoring?
